Off the Beach: COVID-19 Update #3

This week, we hear from Pro beach athletes Corinne Quiggle, Eric Beranek, and Lara Dykstra.

 

How are you maintaining your fitness during quarantine?

Corinne: Lots of yoga, balance work, stretching, and strength! I’m maintaining cardio through the bike and runs.

Eric: I go to Newport Beach to do sand workouts, as well as many days at the park to do sprints and band work.

Lara: During quarantine, I am maintaining fitness by doing strength training and cardio at least six days a week (I have a home gym that is making this possible).

 

Any fun "stay at home" ball control drills you've mastered?

Corinne: One arm balance on a balance board and Bosu ball!

Eric: I just set to myself I’m bed all day long haha

Lara: I have been making my sister pepper with me! We switch off hitting at each other continuously and see who can get the most digs.

 

How has your daily routine changed? What have been some challenges?    

Corinne: Lots more cooking, stretching, and film! Staying on a schedule helps me stay active and stay on the path to come back stronger than when this started!

Eric: Without my normal beach access in Hermosa I can’t train as much with my partner and coach

Lara: My daily routine has changed by not being able to practice on the beach or workout at my favorite Pilates class and gym.

 

Now that all training is off the beach, is there anything new you've implemented during "stay at home" to improve your game?

Corinne: Watching more video of myself and the top teams in the world. Practicing my handsets consistently as well as working on my hand against a wall or peppering!

Eric: Watch lots of video!!

Lara: Now that training is off the court, I have been watching more video at home.

 

What inspires you? 

Corinne: There’s a ton of great content out there right now! I’ve been using Peloton for online workouts and it’s been teaching me a lot and encouraging me to get better! One class of Ally Love and you’ll feel ready to take over the world!

Eric: 80’s hair music always fires me up! Music is a big part of my life. Music gets me in a good mindset 🙂

Lara: I love the School of Greatness podcast by Lewis Howes as well as Finding Mastery by Michael Gervais. I am inspired by people constantly trying to improve!
