This week, we hear from Pro beach athletes Katie Spieler, Eric Beranek, and Branden Clemens.
My “at home” favorite ball control drill:
Katie: Hand setting onto my roof and trying to perfect my hands!
Eric: 90’s Wilson Ball
Branden: I face a wall and pick a spot to aim. I pass and set to that spot for 100 times.
My favorite recovery exercise:
Katie: Ocean swims!
Eric: Foam Roll
Branden: I have been biking a lot and stretching.
My schedule/plan for the first week back in the sand:
Katie: Triple days
Eric: Ball control and agility with no net
Branden: Passing, passing, and more passing. I’ll also probably focus on setting and conditioning as well.
My favorite go-to food or drink after a tough workout:
Katie: Oatmeal loaded with honey and yummy toppings + a green protein smoothie
Eric: I love a good bowl of chicken and rice. Some sort of protein and grain. Wild rice, quinoa, brown or white rice. I’d like to think it changes all the time, but it’s easy to get in a routine with something we like.
Branden: I always drink protein after workouts. My favorite food is chipotle.
What do you anticipate being the hardest skill for you to get back?
Katie: Serving under pressure
Eric: My sand legs. Just finding overall balance in my legs while performing basic movements like passing and setting.
Branden: I think that getting used to moving in the sand will be the hardest thing to do.
If AVP put on a no jump tourney tomorrow, which team wins?
Katie: Karissa Cook + Delaney Knudsen (what I value most in partners: if we win the no jump warm-up!)
Eric: Probably the same teams that are consistently winning because those teams have the best ball control and have great team defense. Have to go with the 2019 majority winners Crabb/ Gibb.
Branden: Taylor Crabb and Jake Gibb
